Description

The Highland A-B-C-D trail is a singletrack loop in Highland Recreation Area. It starts and finishes across the road from the parking lot. The trail is popular for technical mountain biking and was specifically designed not to be raceable. The trail is clearly marked with signposts that include maps. There are also distance markers every half mile or so. This trail is generally busier in the summer and the fall for mountain bikers, who are often out around sunset. At the trailhead, there is access to a bathroom but no water is available. Be prepared for a lot of climbing.

Highland State Recreation Area requires the Michigan Recreation Passport for vehicle entry. Those entering on foot or bicycle are not required to have a Michigan Recreation Passport. For more information, please see https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-350-79134_79210---,00.html

Love to see this trail on the website. Beautiful singletrack for mountain biking with constant ups and downs. It was my go-to for long runs when living in Michigan. There is a strava segment for the trail, and I also believe there was a race held on the trail for a little bit. I don't know what the race results are, but the strava segment shows fastest time for men Alex Ralston at 2:04:52 on 3/19/20 and women Ashley Woods at 2:16:11 on 5/18/19.

For what it's worth, I have in my log that my best time for this loop is just under 2 hours. I would assume that means 1:58-1:59 range. I have no GPS data for that so no verification.

Thanks for the info Peter! I wasn't able to quickly find the link to the strava segment for the whole route. Would anyone mind posting it here? Thanks!
