Description

Starting at the local & visitor favorite Ala Moana Beach and ending at K1/Kōnāhuanui, the highest peak on the Ko'olau Mountains. Your feet needs to touch the water as you press start on your watch.

Head mauka (mountain direction) and cross Ala Moana Blvd until you reach Pi'ikoi St.  To your right will be Ala Moana Shopping Center, the world's largest open-air shopping center and keep heading mauka on Pi'ikoi.  Right when you reach H-1, go under the freeway and it'll be one more block until you reach Wilder Ave (Makiki) and turn right and continue until you reach Punahou School, established by Protestant missionaries in 1841.  Turn left on Manoa Road and continue mauka until you reach Paradise Park. The trail starts here.

You'll be at the Manoa Falls trailhead, a very popular hike among tourist.  Continue up the trail until you reach the junction to Aihualama trail.  There will be steps to your left and Manoa Falls will be directly in front of you.  Manoa Falls and Aihualama trails are the start of Leg 2 of the HURT 100, one of the world's toughest ultra marathons!

At the top of Aihualama, turn right onto Pauoa Flats trail and continue until you see a bench and a sign that says "End of Trail".  To your right you'll see a path to the trail that will take you to K1, Oahu's second highest peak (Mt. Ka'ala on the Waianae Mountains is the highest peak).  It's only another 2 miles until you reach K1.  But don't underestimate the next 2 miles as it took me almost 2 hours to reach K1.

Note: You'll pass K2, the 2nd highest peak on the Ko'olau Mountains.  It'll be a "little bit" more until you reach Pu'u Kōnāhuanui.

Admin note: This is one possible route. Athletes may start anywhere along the coast and take any legal route, although the fastest route will likely be similar to the route described above.
