Description

The Karras Loop extends between Coswig and Moritzburg. Along the way on wonderful single-trail and dirt roads you will pass beautiful small ponds with water lillies, the Moritzburg Castle, extended views over the rolling hills and down into the Elbe River Valley from the Hoher Stein (you can even see the Meissen Castle on a clear day!).

The starting point for the loop is the Spitzgrundteich which has ample free parking and follows the suggested direction on the website (see below).

Here is a translation from the website about the Knights of Karras:

With the bishops of Meissen, the Knights of Karras had come into the land, built castles, and became wealthy in land and possessions.
As far as the eye could see, everything was under their rule.
Then came the time when Elector Moritz of Saxony built a hunting lodge near the Karras holdings. In the enclosures, he kept deer, roe deer, and wild boar. When his hunting ground no longer met his needs, he ordered the Knights of KARRAS to sell him the nearby village of Kreyern and the associated land.
He commanded the farmers living there to leave their village, but the Knights of Karras did not agree with this deal and demanded an court to decide the matter.
The court issued the ruling: "The land belongs to the gracious Lord Elector."
