Koasa Brutal – Wilder Kaiser East-to-West Traverse
Koasa Brutal is a traverse of the Wilder Kaiser massif in Tyrol, Austria, covering the major peaks of the Wilder Kaiser
From Going, the alpine section starts with the ascent of Mauckspitze (2,231 m), followed by Ackerlspitze (2,329 m). The route then descends north to Griesenau before climbing back into the massif via the Eggerssteig.
From there, the route continues over Hintere Goinger Halt (2,192 m) and the Karlspitze, then follows the alpine terrain via the Jubiläumssteig to the Gruttenhütte.
From the Gruttenhütte, the route climbs Ellmauer Halt (2,344 m), the highest summit of the Wilder Kaiser, before continuing westward toward Wiesberg and the final summit, Kopfkraxen (2,178 m).
The route then descends from the western part of the massif to Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser,
In total, the route covers approximately:
The route must be completed continuously and entirely under human power.
The mountain section follows established normal routes and marked alpine trails but includes exposed and technical alpine terrain, scrambling and sections requiring sure-footedness, a head for heights and appropriate alpine experience. Depending on season and pace, significant parts of the route may be completed in darkness. Autumn conditions can add further difficulty through wet rock, low temperatures and long nights.
Koasa Brutal was conceived as a continuous link between the eastern and western Wilder Kaiser.
