Lassen Picnic

The Lassen Picnic is a mountain triathlon–style adventure — a Swim / Bike / Hike / Bike / Swim route inspired by the legendary Teton Picnic. This route links the crystal-clear waters of Manzanita Lake with the summit of Lassen Peak, creating a uniquely scenic and challenging experience for multi-sport athletes.

Starting and finishing at the Manzanita Lake sign near the Lassen National Park northern entrance, this route showcases some of the park’s most beautiful terrain. Cool alpine lakes, winding mountain roads, and volcanic summit views make this a truly unforgettable adventure.

Route Details:

  • Swim: 0.5 miles across Manzanita Lake

  • Bike: 21 miles (3,488 ft gain) to the Lassen Peak Trailhead Parking Lot

  • Hike: 5 miles round trip (2,060 ft gain) to the summit of Lassen Peak (10,457 ft)

  • Bike: 21 miles (849 ft gain) returning to Manzanita Lake

  • Swim: 0.5 miles back across the lake to finish

The Lassen Picnic offers a perfect blend of endurance, beauty, and adventure — ideal for triathletes and mountain athletes looking to explore one of California’s most remarkable volcanic landscapes in a new way.
