Description

Backcountry route in Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland. A permit is required from Parks Canada for this route, and you must meet with a park ranger and complete a safety briefing. The route starts after a ferry ride to the end of Western Brook Pond, where you disembark and begin. You first traverse up the Western Brook fjord gorge to the rim of the pond, and then travel through the long range mountains until you descend at ferry gulch to the base of Gros Morne. From here you follow the popular Gros Morne Mountain trail to the parking lot, where the route ends. As this is a backcountry route, navigation skills are required and there is no set path from the start at Western Brook Pond to the exit at Ferry Gulch. A personal locator beacon (Inreach or other) and routefinding skills with map and compass is required.
