Up and down Majors Mountain, starting from Joseph L. Boll Ave, just west of Sorensen Field, outside Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow. Run north through the gravel parking lot and follow it all the way down until your forced to make a right. At this point this is where the run gets fun. You’ll see a large metal pipe going under the rail road tracks. Proceed under the rail road tracks and head straight out onto the gravel/sand road leading into what is commonly known as the Mojave River bed. Follow the sand road path up to the fire break road roughly a mile ahead. This part of the run has soft sand that you will navigate through. Once you come to the fire break road take a right and follow the dirt road all the way to the Orange and Silver striped sign that’s located right before a large dip. Once you locate the Orange and Silver sign turn left up the steep grade leading to the summit of Major’s Mountain. The path leading up to the peak is riddled with small to large rocks and has several false peaks. Once you reach the summit at 2.4 miles, turn around and head back the way you came.
I love this run because it has some hard ball, some gravel, dirt trail and sand surfaces. The view atop the peak provides a stellar panoramic view of Barstow.
