Description

From Burglauenen (896 m) follow mainly the marked trail of Eiger 35k all the way till the Männlichen upper lift station (2222), where 3 lifts are arriving. Going down over the piste and tarmac road that winds through the ski-area. Down in Grindelwald running back to Burglauenen following the left-side trail of the river Schwarze Lütschine. There are spectacular views during the complete trail! First to the north and west. And later, above the tree line, one can admire the north faces of Jungfrau, Mönch and Eiger.

Please note that the train from Interlaken-Ost to Grindelwald is not stopping by default in Burglauenen. One needs to press the STOP-button which is only present in the frond train wagon. The train station is really small. The same holds for going back: at the train station of Burglauenen you must press a button. That will warn the train driver that he needs to stop for you.

There is no option to make this trail shorter, although one could finish at the train station of Grindelwald terminal or Schwendi, reducing the last 5 km of rather flat running. To make the route longer, there are multiple options. One could decide to follow the complete E35,  which goes via Kleine Scheidegg and returns to Grindelwald even closer to Eiger north face.

The route is snow covered in winter, and less suited for trail running when the ski area is opened. One should take care with snow also in the weeks before winter season. Because the trail crosses the western slopes from Männlichen – looking over Wengen – which are prone to avalanche danger. Only proceed here when you have winter mountaineering skills.
