The Marconi Trail, located on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, is both historically significant and stunningly beautiful. The trail begins near the Fortress of Louisbourg, where French and British troops battled in the mid 1700s. Winding through tiny, colourful coastal villages and traversing through forests, the trail heads toward the Marconi monument, another historically significant point where Signore Guglielmo Marconi transmitted the first wireless signal from just outside the mining town of Glace Bay to Cornwall, England. The exact spot where the signal was sent from is a national historic site, marked with a small museum. Even without the interesting history of the trail, it's worth exploring for the beauty of the ocean views and colourful fishing towns.
