Alternatively, the Mera Mera-thon!

(Editor's note: Adding two FKTs here as variations. The "Mera-thon" from Lukla as well as the more traditional summit from Khare village).

Mera Peak (6476 meters / 21247 feet) is a classic trekking peak in the Himalaya. It is not technically challenging, though there are crevasses that must be avoided. The route is unique because it takes you from jungle to glaciers and back. Most people take weeks to complete the trek with a guide, but for those who love a good challenge, it can be completed in a couple days with a stay in Khare or even in one push. Start at the stupa in Lukla, run over Zatrwa La Pass, run down a steep and loose descent into Kothe, and then along a river valley up to Khare. There are villages along the way if you need to resupply on food/ water. From there, the climb begins and crampons will be needed. Touch the prayer flags on the summit, enjoy the views of Everest and other 8000m peaks, and then run back down all the way to Lukla :) Be sure to conserve enough energy for the final climb up the pass.
