Description

This is a fully way marked trail that covers the historical routes that the miners of the locality used to use to get to work in the Arigna mines. The route covers three Counties. The full Miners Way trail branches off in three locations but this route done in two loops with a short but awesome section having to be covered twice is a fantastic looped route.

It probably comes to about 50 - 60% tarmac but then crosses mountain big, raised wooden walkways, open field, old roads and tracks. It takes in beautiful scenery from all three Counties. Plenty of fast running but also a lot of slow slogging, as the mountains are usually wet and boggy.

This trail starts at the Arigna Mining Experience just outside Drumshanbo, goes across the top of the mountain to Keadue. Then after Lough Meelagh to Ballyfarnon it follows an anticlockwise loop up into Castlebaldwin in Sligo, coming back through Boyle and Lough Key Forest Park. This is where you do the Lough Meelagh to Ballyfarnon section again, but this time you then follow a clockwise route up and across Kilronan Mountain following the trail back to the start point at the Arigna Mining Experience Arigna Mining Experience
