Description

The Miner’s Way Trail winds its way through the picturesque countryside of East Kent, linking together the old coalfield parishes of East Kent and passing through pretty villages, small farmsteads, grand country estates and the remains of this area's industrial and mining heritage. From Sholden it explores the beautiful lower slopes of the North Downs between Deal and Shepherdswell, past what remains of old coal mines opened in the 1920's rush for 'black gold'. Much of this arable landscape, profuse with hedges and woodlands, has not changed since Saxon times and the names of the villages and hamlets you pass on the route are firmly lodged in their Old English origins.
