Description

My friend Jacob Szilagyi and I decided to do a sea to summit attempt in San Diego from one of the most popular beaches, Mission Beach, to the top of one of the hardest, most famous mountains in the area, El Cajon Mountain (the El Capitan of San Diego). This route included running through the city and other towns for over 20 miles and getting to the trailhead around mile 30. Once you get to the trailhead, it is a 11.2 mile out and back with over 3000 feet of elevation. It is largely considered the hardest hike in the San Diego area, so doing it after 30 miles of pavement running was a challenge. As far as we know we are the only people to attempt and complete this challenge in a single day. I would love to get this established as a new route so others can try as well as an FKT. We are both 20 years old and this was our first long distance/ultra marathon run we have ever done.
