Route: Monte Tarn (Chile)

Location
Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena, CL
Distance
10.9 km
Description

Mount Tarn is perhaps the most classic mountain in the region of Magallanes y Antártica Chilena. Climbed by trekking fans, mountaineers and some trail runners, it is a classic mountain today. Sharing trails with Cabo Froward and trekking to the San Isidro Lighthouse, Mount Tarn rises standing out in the area.

It starts from the zero meter height on the beach itself and rises to 826 meters above sea level. The terrain is very spongy and muddy due to the peat, classic of the southern sector of the peninsula de Brunswick.
Some sections in the middle part of the peat plus water from small wells ensure wet feet, to finally get out of the arboreal line to reach the top edge with rock that was once under the sea. The wind is assured from this area and the view of the summit despite not being too high, gives a wonderful view of Dawson Island, Tierra del Fuego Island and the end of the southern mountains towards Cape Froward.
