Route: Mount Deception (WA)

Mount Deception is the second highest peak in the Olympic Mountain Range at 7788 ft, second only to Mount Olympus, and the 17th most prominent peak in Washington (4108 ft). The fastest way there is to start at the upper Dungeness Trailhead and hike through old growth forests to Royal Basin and then through upper Royal Basin. Summiting this peak will take different amounts of snow travel or scrambling depending on times of the year and the snowpack level. There is considerable hazard from rockfall and rockslides if later in the season and some glacier travel depending on which route variation you select.
