Description

Trailhead: Mount Pugh Trailhead (#644), off Forest Road 2095 via the Mountain Loop Highway, ~1,950 ft. Northwest Forest Pass required.

Distance/Gain: ~11 miles round trip, ~5,300 ft gain, out-and-back.

Route: From the trailhead, forested trail with several stream crossings climbs to Lake Metan at 1.5 miles (3,260 ft), the last water source. Stay left at the lake junction. Long switchbacks continue up through forest and a boulder field to Stujack Pass (~5,700 ft). Beyond the pass, the trail roughens and follows the ridge around a small glacier, leading to an exposed scrambling section known as the Knife's Edge, then hands-on scrambling to the true summit.
