The sentinel of Everett, Mt Pilchuck is the closest peak to the suburban area and is a popular hiking destination in the summer months. It even has a lookout on the summit with great views of the surrounding mountains and the Puget Sound.
Route starts at the trailhead -- ascent ends at/in the lookout, roundtrip goes up to the lookout and back down to the trailhead.

If looking for more vert, an alternative route starting at the Mt Loop Highway and ascending the gravel road provides 4125 ft elevation gain and 19 miles round-trip. This also eliminates driving up the slow and rough access road to the trailhead.
