Old Womans Mountain is a 1,332' (406 m) peak that can be accessed from Aviation Loop via Clark Lane, and can be hiked year-round. The trail heads into the woods in the beginning, but the terrain quickly changes to a rocky ascent, often with streams or slippery rocks that can be unforgiving. With a few lookouts along the way, the trail continues climbing until reaching the terrain evens out. A flag is usually present at the top of the first "peak," where the trail continues to a lake adjacent to the summit. Old Woman Mountain provides excellent views of the largest Coast Guard Base (Air Station Kodiak) and the Kodiak Benny Benson State Airport (ADQ). Sometimes you can see C-130's and Boeing 737's takeoff, or even the local floatplanes traveling to the rural villages. Wildlife is plentiful, as well as wildflowers during the summer and fall seasons.
I recorded an elevation gain of 1,340' from the parking lot to the summit, with the highest point at 1,425' and a distance of 2.3 miles.
