Description

The Ostfriesland Wanderweg is a regional hiking trail running from North to South through the region of East Frisia in Northern Germany. With a length of around 97 kilometers, it is the longest and oldest hiking trail in the area. The region is known for its flat land so the route is easy as there is hardly any elevation. The trail runs in parts on the route of the former narrow-gauge railroad track Leer-Aurich-Wittmund and is part of the European Long Distance Hiking E9. Since 1982 the annual Ossiloop race takes place on parts of the trail in six stages between Bensersiel and Leer (67 km).
