Description

I did this FKT Southbound (SOBO) to finish off my Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) adventure with an overnight and to see just how fast and far I could do to finish 100 Miles.

That said this route was iconic and I think would make a great stand alone FKT, which is why creating the route for it.  This is a well known part of the PCT but when I was on the route in mid-September, I was basically alone the entire 35:02:35.

I ran from Montezuma Valley Road, through the San Felipe Hills Wilderness area, crossing Route 78 and through the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, near Sunrise Highway, close to Garnet Mountain and then through the Cleveland National Forest, up and over mountains, always on the look out for water, to the finish just past the town of Campo the PCT Southern Terminus and the USA-Mexico border wall.

I think this could become a classic and I hope will inspire people to be so taken with the beauty of the PCT that at some point they are inspired to do the entire PCT as it will change their life.

This route is very hot and water is not plentiful so it does require a level of discipline that is not for the new or inexperienced but with proper planning 100% doable.
