Description

Powers Peak is a 10 mile out and back route starting and ending at the Cannell Meadow trailhead in Sequoia National Forest, just outside Kernville, CA. The peak is named after the "Cowboy Historian" Bob Powers, who passed away in 2002.

The route follows the Cannell Meadow trail (FS trail 33E32) for about 4.5 miles before veering off up to the peak on a well-worn section of trail that includes some steep grades and scrambles. The peak has a logbook and plaque at a large prominent rock, and route returns to the start on the same path.

For those attempting the FKT, be aware of weather (snow in the winter, extreme heat in the summer) and the complete lack of water on the route. Parking is available at the trailhead.
