The Prescott Triple Crown is a 40 mile route that summits Prescott’s three most prominent peaks, Spruce Mountain, Thumb Butte and Granite Mountain.
First you climb the steep trail to the summit of Spruce Mountain before running the ridge line and looping back down, from there you take the old Senator Highway and link up onto the Prescott Circle trails lush single track before running through one of Prescotts oldest mountain neighborhoods, the mountain club (established in the 20’s). After some road running, you run on the butte creek trail system before hitting thumb butte. From here, you climb over 600 feet in less than a mile to the thumb butte summit. After topping out you have a rowdy descent back to the road where you’ll jump on some rolling single track which will take you back into the circle trail towards the granite basin. Once in the basin you will run granite basin road for a few miles before reaching gorgeous granite basin lake and the start of the final climb of the day, the towering granite mountain. You will take trail 261 through steep switch backs amongst towering granite rock formations to the summit of granite mountain, where you’re treated to amazing views of the Williamson valley. Then you’re treated with a rollicking fast descent back down to the lake, where you can swim.
