Rainbow Mountain is a prominent peak close to Whistler village that involves a fun mix of smooth trail running, off trail route finding, class 3 scrambling, and some of the best views in the area.
Start from the Rainbow Trailhead on Alta Lake Road. The route follows the smooth Rainbow Lake Trail for 9km and gains 950m of elevation before heading off trail just above the lake. Turn right and ascend the western slopes of the mountain until gaining the ridge. The ridge is mostly class 2, with several class 3 moves with moderate exposure. Route ends at the true summit of Rainbow (check your GPX, easy to confuse the many false summits with the real thing!).
