Description

Following the river upstream from the historic harbour village of Pill close to the river's mouth, the River Avon Trail passes through the spectacular Avon Gorge, the modern city and ancient river port of Bristol, some very beautiful countryside to reach the elegant Georgian city of Bath.

The River Avon Trail is part of the Kennet and Avon Walk which goes across country from Reading on the Thames to the Severn Estuary.

It is a fascinating river. Historically it was the great highway of the area, stimulating trade and industry. The river corridor has a complex geology and offers a rich and varied environment for wildlife, containing some unique species.
