Description

The river Frome is the second major river in Bristol running from Dyson Estate in the suburbs to the centre ending at the historic Bristol Harbourside.

Lined by history, quarries, bouldering spots and the progression from the beautiful countryside to Bristol’s bustling city centre, the net downhill route lends itself to a fast 34k of a mixture of technical footpaths, river and bridge crossings and fast paced road running into the centre. There are a few road crossing's and later  in the year, the flashy river catchment is likely to flooding.

The source also maintains a boggy nature throughout the year. Along the Frome are bird nesting sites for peregrine falcons, kingfishers and other wildlife. Specifically around the Winterbourne area you may also encounter fishermen along the banks of the river.

Historically the Frome was used as a natural water barrier for the Bristol Castle, feeding the moat. In the 14th century the rivers mouth was moved to feed the wharf and eventually help form the Harbourside.
