Description

I have particularly been inspired by some of the multi sport routes on the site like Longs Peak Triathlon, or the Jenny Lake Triathlon ("picnic"). I think there is something very organic about starting and ending an adventure from the local population center, rather than just commuting to the trailhead.

Elko NV is a small mining town with a deep history rooted in cowboy and Basque culture, gaming, and aviation. Of note, is Ruby Dome, backdroping the city with epic and inspiring beauty. The mountain is the highest in the range and by far one of the most enjoyable and most popular routes in the region.

The Ruby Dome Duathlon variation starts and ends at the The Star Hotel (https://www.elkostarhotel.com/) a 1910 restaurant that still celebrates the regions Basque culture and is just possibly the most widely recognized establishment by the local community--a true Elko hallmark.

The fkter bikes through the outskirts of town over the Elko Summit Pass, through Spring Creek (the local "suburb") and up the dirt road to the Griswold Trailhead, the start of the established fkt of just the dome. The ride it's self is approximately 21 miles with just over 2.5k of vert. After changing shoes and summiting (see established route) the fkter then retraces their steps on foot and then bike, finishing again at The Star. (Participants then have the option of ordering and eating a steak sandwich, the restaurant's specialty, to complete an unofficial "triathlon").

In Alex Honnolds recent TV series covering the outdoor beauty of NV, he visits both The Star, and Ruby Dome during his Elko episode. He however drove to the trailhead!
