The "Saalfelder Höhenweg" trail connects the town of Saalfeld with the ridge of Rennsteig. From Saalfeld train station, the trail leads through the town center and continues afterwards uphill to the "Schwarmblick" viewpoint and onto the "Saalfelder Höhe". Passing the "Bankzeitweg" trail in Arnsgereuth, the "Silbersee" lake, and the "Rotschnabelaussicht" viewpoint in Reichmannsdorf, the trail reaches the Leipzig Tower in Schmiedefeld. From there, the final kilometers of the trail lead up to the main ridge of the Thuringian Forest. The route ends in front oft the Neuhaus am rennweg train station.
