This route completes the entire Sheffield Supertram network in a single, continuous effort, following the Tram Train, Yellow, Blue, and Purple routes in full. The journey starts at the Tram Train northern terminus at Parkgate, before running south-west to Meadowhall, continuing through the city centre via Cathedral, and out to Hillsborough. From there, the route returns through the city centre and continues south-east to the Halfway terminus via Herdings Park, completing the full network end to end.
The route itself passes through former and active industrial areas around Parkgate and Meadowhall, reflecting the city’s manufacturing heritage, before moving into the civic and commercial heart of the city centre. From there, the route threads through established residential neighbourhoods, local high streets, and green-edged corridors, highlighting the contrast between Sheffield’s industrial past, its cultural regeneration, and its everyday community spaces. The transition from heavy industry to parks, suburbs, and hillside districts underscores the city’s unique character and makes this route as much a cultural journey as a physical one.
The GPX follows the tram alignment as closely as practicable, using public pavements, footpaths, shared-use routes, bridges, and underpasses to mirror the tracks. Where the tram runs at street level, the route stays parallel; where it is segregated or inaccessible, the nearest logical pedestrian alternatives are used to preserve continuity and intent.
