The Spanish Peaks Loop, nestled in the scenic Madison County, Montana, offers an adventurous trek through the heart of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness. This loops starts and ends at the Spanish Creek Trailhead. If traveling clockwise you’ll travel through a damp, thick forest full of vegetation via Little Hell Roaring Creek Trail through Ted Turner's infamous Flying D Ranch to the junction of Indian Ridge Trail. Indian Ridge Trail climbs via long switchbacks to to a beautiful ridge-line trail with sweeping views of the valleys below. You'll continue to follow Indian Ridge Trail all the way up to Beacon Point which sits at just over 10,200 ft, the highest elevation on this route. Continuing on Indian Ridge Trail, the route then descends steep switchbacks down to Thompson Lake at the base of Gallatin Peak and travels through a beautiful cirque before climbing one last time to go up and over a small saddle to Summit Lake. Past Summit Lake you'll meet up with South Fork Spanish Creek trail and follow that back to the Spanish Creek Trail trailhead, completing the 22.9 mile loop.
