Sunshine and Red Cloud Peaks are two of Colorado's 58 fourteeners, and are therefore two of the most popular and sought after summits in the state. They are two of the closest fourteeners to the legendary mountain town, Silverton, though many runner will access from Lake City, both towns home to many notable trail races such as Hardrock. These peaks are run daily in the summer. Due to their proximity, most runners will do both summits together.

It's gaining in popularity to do the peaks as a biathlon from Silverton, cycling from town over Cinnamon Pass to the Sunshine/Red Cloud trailhead. However, note that the route for the biking portion is up to the athlete.
