Description

The route is designed to loop around the Munster Valley, starting and finishing at the church in Wintzenheim and passing over the valley's iconic mountains.

The route combines steep climbs, technical trails, and long, rolling sections at altitude (up to 1363m).
It passes over major peaks offering sweeping views across the entire massif: Ehrbehrkopf, Hohlandsbourg Castle, Staufen, Petit Ballon, Markstein, Rothenbachkopf, Batteriekopf, Rainkopf, Kastelberg, Hohneck, Tanetkopf, Gazon de Faîte, Petit Hohnack, and Grand Hohnack.
The terrain is varied, alternating between dense forests, exposed grasslands, and rocky paths. Pacing is essential due to the cumulative elevation gain and frequent changes in pace.

Technical sections require caution, especially on the rocky descents. There is exposure to wind and changing conditions on the ridges.

Limited resupply (farm inns open only in summer, water available at the Col de la Schlucht), self-sufficiency recommended for most of the course. A demanding profile, suitable for experienced trail runners accustomed to long distances. Navigation is relatively intuitive, but vigilance is required at certain junctions. A mix of fast sections allows for maintaining a good overall pace. Sustained climbs test muscular and cardiorespiratory endurance. A challenging course offering complete immersion in the Vosges landscape. The goal is a FKT based on optimal management of pace, hydration, and mental focus.
