Does running 20+ miles of technical single track and soloing classic rock routes sound fun? If so, then this route is for you. This route was not my brainchild, but something I saw on Mountain Project that Shawn S. envisioned, but never attempted. Essentially this route connects 8 different traprock cliffs along the Metacomet Trail. The route is likely around 23 miles (mileage will vary depending on which connector trails/roads you take). Here are the details with route names on each cliff:
Rattlesnake Mnt (Green Goddess 5.8)
Pinnacle Rock (Emerald City 5.8)
Firewall (Flaming Arrow 5.8)
Ragged Mountain (Broadway 5.8)
Short Mountain (Out on a Limb 5.8)
West Peak (Picture Book 5.8)
East Peak (Thors Hammer 5.9)
Cathole Cliff (Pegasus 5.8)
This route is suited for a trail runner and climber who feels comfortable soloing easier climbs, but you could also carry a rope and some gear. Either way, it is a fun day outside.
From original MP description: "Venturing this beautiful stretch of traprock ridge will showcase some of the most interesting, historic, and densely packed single pitch traditional climbing in the country."
Regional Editor Note: There is no way to verify that you climbed the routes "cleanly". Please just keep your watch running from the base to the top of each climb so that completion of each route can be verified.
