A Logical Traverse of the Troodos Mountains (Cyprus)
This route crosses the largest mountain range in Cyprus, following a logical line from Polis in the northwest to Larnaca on the southern coast. It reaches the island’s highest peak, Mount Olympus (1,952 m), and mostly follows the European long-distance trail E4, with a few exceptions.
The main deviation occurs around the Kykkos Monastery, where the standard E4 detour is avoided. This is because the traditional route includes a 45 km stretch without any water sources (the previous one is dry for several years), so this version opts for a more direct and practical alternative.
The traverse offers a stunning variety of landscapes. You'll start and finish in rolling hills, with dramatic mountain scenery and diverse terrain in between. YOu will see deep forest, beutiful view to the whole island, small villages etc. The route includes forest trails, some sections on quiet paved roads, and remote mountain paths—providing a true long-distance hiking experience across Cyprus.
