Traditionally a cycle route, the Wakefield Wheel is a 36 mile (58km) circular route taking you through the diverse landscapes of the Wakefield District. The route encircles the city of Wakefield and passes through several parks and green spaces in the area, including Lofthouse Colliery Nature Park, Anglers Country Park, Newmillerdam, and Pugneys Country Park. The route has "spokes" off to link into most parts of Wakefield and consequently is never far from means of public transport.
Suggested starting points are Pugneys Country Park, Anglers Country Park, and Stanley Ferry. There are various cafes, pubs, and shops on the route where you can take refreshments. Some of the route may be muddy and uneven (particularly in wet weather).
