Description

A complete loop of canal, primarily in Warwickshire but also passing through West Midlands, Northamptonshire and Staffordshire. The canal loop includes the Coventry Canal, between Fazeley and Hawkesbury (north of Coventry), then the North Oxford canal past Rugby to Braunston junction, the Grand Union canal through Leamington, Warwick and Solihull, to Aston junction, and the Birmingham and Fazeley canal to complete the loop. Note: the route in central Birmingham utilises the slightly longer route to Aston in preference over the shorter Bordesley branch canal, purely so that the overall distance is a nice round number!

The route is picturesque, and passes through a variety of environments, from open countryside, to leafy suburbia, to industrial and urban. Sections of it are completely flat, others have steep flights of locks. Most of the tunnels on the route can by walked or ran through, but Shrewley tunnel involves a short diversion up and over a road.

The route is very easy to navigate, just needing to know which way to go at key canal junctions.
