Description

The Werra-Burgen-Steig Hessen (X5 H) is a 133km long hiking trail with ~4.000HM in central Germany, that was awarded the title "Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland" (Quality Trail Wanderable Germany) due to its trail characteristics, its hiking guidance system and its high hiking experience value.

The trail runs on the ridges of the Werratal from the Tannenberg Castle in Nentershausen to the three-river town of Hann. Münden

It passes several castles and palaces and offers a variety of landscapes, beautiful views and magnificient historic half-timbered towns like Eschwege, Bad Sooden-Allendorf, Witzenhausen and Hann. Münden. Parts of the track also run along the former inner-German border

There are continous up and downhill passages along the trail which are mostly moderate and can be hiked quite well. The underground is mostly forest trails but a significant part, especially through the towns is paved.  two Hessian Switzerland. There are rail connections to Eschwege, Witzenhausen, Bad Sooden-Allendorf and Hann. Münden but either start/finish in Tannenberg Castle can only be reached by car. There is ca. -200HM difference between Tannenberg Castle and Hann. Münden. Hann. Münden has a good touristic infrastructure, which makes it the better finish location.
