Description

Wesselman Park is located in Evansville, Indiana. The park is a special place where residents go to exercise, compete in sports, experience & learn about nature and gather together for community events. This 12-hour loop challenge is located in the largest tract of virgin, old-growth forest within any city limits in the United States. As the Wesselman Woods website says, "Since the forest has not been cut in the last 200 years, it is very unlikely to have ever experienced timber harvest (Hochwender, 2010)." https://wesselmanwoods.org/about

This challenge is to do as many loops within a 12-hour period. Wesselman Park is open between 6:00am and 10:00pm central time each day. To comply with park hours, the 12-hour period may start as early as 6:05am and must end no later than 9:55pm.

The paved path is shared with automobiles going one way in a counter-clockwise direction. Signs along the path instruct runners to run against traffic in a clockwise direction. The suggested starting point is in the parking lot at the picnic shelter on the south side of the loop.
