Challenge yourself on some of the most rugged and beautiful terrain the west side of Mount Desert Island has to offer!
Inspired in part by the well known sub-ultra ski mountain races of western Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont (Loon, Cranmore, Cannon, etc.) this route covers similar elevation gain and distance to these classic 10k races but with a devilish amount of roots, rocks, and unpredictable footing.
The route starts at the Long Pond "pump house" parking area (next to the house) and travels the entire ridge of Western Mountain twice in a classic out-and-back style segment. The turning point is at Seal Cove Pond Rd. and the route is a segment of the much longer Acadia National Park Peaks Traverse.
