The Widows Peak point-to-point traverse links the two highest summits of Brisbane Waters National Park (Mt Wondabyne) and Bouddi National Park (Mt Bouddi) in a demanding and highly varied coastal route.
Beginning at the old Pacific Highway bridge at Somersby, the course follows Piles Creek before joining the Great North Walk en route to Patonga. From Warrah Trig, the route turns toward Pearl Beach, tracing the coastline around Umina Point and continuing along the exposed sands of Umina, Ocean Beachand Ettalong.
This opening section from Brisbane Waters National Park to Ettalong ferry terminal covers nearly 34km, combining technical singletrack, fire trails, waterfalls, and extended beach running.
A defining feature of the route is the ferry crossing from Ettalong to Wagstaffe, which provides the only link between the two national parks. With limited daily services, precise timing is essential, missing the ferry effectively ends an FKT attempt.
From Wagstaffe, the route continues through Bouddi National Park, covering approximately 18km of rugged and scenic coastal trail before finishing at the Avoca Beach Surf Club boat ramp.
The Widows Peak traverse stands out for its unique mix of terrain, remote coastal scenery and the strategic challenge of synchronising effort with the infrequent ferry timetable.
Note on Unsupported FKTs: Unsupported efforts are not possible on this route due to the mandatory ferry crossing between Ettalong and Wagstaffe. As per FKT guidelines, the use of motorized transport disqualifies an attempt from being considered unsupported.
