Description

Clingman's Dome is the highest point in Tennessee, the highest point along the Appalachian Trail, and the second highest point in North Carolina!

Ascent:  Begin at the Deep Creek Trailhead and ascend to the Pole Road Trail, then on to the Noland Divide Trail which joins the Clingman's Dome Road. Continue to the left (uphill) on Clingman's Dome Road 1.0 mile to the Clingman's Dome Parking lot, and continue up Clingman's Dome Trail to the summit!  Note there is no up & down FKT for this route. If you want to return to the TH take the Loop variation below.

Loop:  Begin at the Deep Creek Trailhead and ascend to the Pole Road Trail, then on to the Noland Divide Trail which joins the Clingman's Dome Road. Continue to the left (uphill) on Clingman's Dome Road 1.0 mile to the Clingman's Dome Parking lot, and continue up Clingman's Dome Trail to the summit. Then join the Appalachian Trail Northbound and descend to the Fork Ridge Trail and finally back on to the Deep Creek Trail and return to the Trailhead. 34.3 miles / 6650' gain.
