The D&L Trail is a 157 mile route in Eastern Pennsylvania. The northern terminus begins on the banks of the Susquehanna River in Wilkes-Barre, PA and follows the course of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, the Lehigh Canal towpath and Delaware Canal towpath ending on the western shore of the Delaware River in Bristol, PA just north of the city limits of Philadelphia.
The Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor was established by Congress in 1988, recognizing the important role that these railways and towpaths played in fueling the industrial revolution in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The D&L Trail passes through 3 distinct regions: the Anthracite region where the coal and iron were mined, the Lehigh Valley region where steel mills used those raw materials to build the American industrial machine, and the Delaware region where the products from the northern regions were taken to market in Philadelphia and around the world.
Planning an attempt to produce the first FKT on this route. Two male runners (Albert Propst, Daniel King), using a crew, attempting the supported FKT. We will start together and plan to finish together submitting the exact same time for both of us. We'll begin Friday afternoon (April 9th) in Wilkes-Barre heading south. Our target is 40 hours, finishing Sunday morning in Bristol (April 11th). We'll submit the URL for our tracker before the start. We're both really excited to start this adventure together!
If you're planning an attempt at this FKT, we'd love to help and provide support or even logistical details we gathered in our research! You can reach out to Albert & I on Instagram @Ultramarathonboys - Go get it!
My brother (Charlie Anderson) and I are planning an FKT attempt of this route September 18th 2021 north to south. We will be crewed and following the same route as @Ultramrathonboys (thanks for the info on the route and logistics!).
I am planning on making an attempt starting on the 21st of April. I will be going north to south following the same route at the Ultramarathonboys. I will be supported/crewed. I will post a tracker closer to the day.Â
My brother (Charlie Vasey) and I are planning another attempt of this route starting September 15th 2023 around 5pm north to south. We will be crewed and following the same route as @Ultramrathonboys (thanks for the info on the route and logistics!). Hopefully we don't DNF again!
