Route: Haute Route: Chamonix - Zermatt (France, Switzerland)

The Haute Route Chamonix-Zermatt is the most famous glacier route in the Alps. It connects two mountain capitals by high altitude trails and glacier crossings with passes over 3500m.

Many variations to the route exist. The one described here starts from the church in Chamonix and links all of the highest glaciers and passes to finish by the church in Zermatt. The route passes the following mountain passes:

· Col Supérieur du Tour

· Plateau du Couloir

· Col du Sonadon

· Col de l'Évêque

· Col de Bertol

· Col de la Tête Blanche

Variation route called "by the Mille hut"

This variation to "Haute Route: Chamonix - Zermatt" avoids the highest and most difficult alpine section of the route. Instead of passing by the Valsorey hut and Plateau du Couloir this route will take you by the Mille hut and Lac Mauvoisin and rejoin again just before the Otemma glacier.
