Description

Mahaska Community Recreation Trail is a 12.8 mile loop trail that circumnavigates the town of Oskaloosa, Iowa and is good for all skill levels.  This trail is highlighted on various websites noting Iowa trails including AllTrails and TrailLink.  Most of the trail is a wide concrete path that accommodates two-way traffic.   About two miles of the loop is by street connections on the southeast corner of town with a few other short street connections elsewhere around the loop.   The trail winds through scenic woodlands, past agricultural fields and passes through parks and by a couple of golf courses.   Numerous underpasses allow for safe passage under the two highways that bisect the town, as well as, other major street crossings.  Since it is a loop course it can be started at any point on the loop.

Uncommon to find a route like this in small town America. Most of the loop is on a concrete paved path with no cars. Some is on quiet side streets and a very minimal amount is on a higher speed road. Excellent track for running fast. Very friendly town where everyone I came across said hello. I would highly recommend this route if you're passing by the area.
