We started at the Big Sandy trailhead at 8:30am on a cool fall morning. The weather forecast was gloomy, but we were surprised to see no one on the trail for most of the day. We experienced some high winds and rain and snow on Jackass Pass, and then the rain continued for the rest of the day. It let up for possibly an hour total, so we spent most of the time wearing rain jackets and gloves. We carried two .5 liter soft flasks each and filtered water several times on trail. We also carried enough food to get us back to the Big Sandy trailhead after completing the point to point FKT. For logistical reasons, we opted to do this route as an out and back instead of a point to point, and we completed it all unsupported. We pushed hard on the first section while trying to leave enough gas in the tank for the return journey. We both really enjoyed the route and would like to do the one-way variation again.
