I was hoping to get the ascent of Solo Flight in addition to the round trip, but I didn’t come into this attempt rested enough. I felt pretty good running on the trail portion, but once I started the climb past Crater Lake, I started to slow down quite a bit.
My navigation toward the peak wasn’t very efficient either. The cairns were quite a bit smaller and harder to see than I anticipated. Maybe I wasn’t looking hard enough! I also ended up a bit above the cairn-marked path on the ridgy section just before the “summit”, so I had to make a couple 5th class moves to get back on track. Overall, there is definitely room for improvement! I’ll probably be back.
Regarding food and nutrition, I started with a pack of caffeinated energy chews, some fig snacks, and my empty 0.5L BeFree. I filled this up a handful of times throughout the run.
