FYI, Max's ascent according to the Full Sisson strava segment is 3:19, not 2:58 as he claimed. Maybe he spent some time on the summit taking in the views, but also if you add both of the main segments together that break this route in half it puts him anywhere from 3:09-3:19. Much faster than my ascent still. Who is going to go break the 5 hour mark, Max?

Strava Description:

I have to give a huge thanks to the Holy Spirit for allowing me to tap in and flow together.
I left my phone and headphones behind for this one so I could become one with myself and the spirit. An absolutely incredible morning running from the town of Shasta to the summit and back… couldnt ask for a better day.
Max King set a stout time.. I was anywhere from 30-40minutes behind him on the summit and made up all of that time + 10 minutes in the downhill… bet he could bring this under 5 hr if he hit the down harder. maybe if I started 30mins later the downhill would’ve been a few minutes faster. It was quite firm on the upper face below red banks. Ouch front of calves. I got down 6200ft in like 45 mins or so I’m pretty sure. I fell probably 3 or 4 times from horse camp out.. used the mount to coast H1 and I don’t think the grip was good enough… I though it would be but I slipped and ate it a couple times.
I fueled very well pretty much the entire way. Although, I didn’t drink enough. I drank less than 1L and planned for 1.5L. Needed more electrolytes by the end. I was hurting bad those last few miles. Also, being acclimated would probably help just a little bit.
This is one of the hardest efforts I’ve put up on a mountain hands down.. turns out going up and down that much vert that fast kinda hurts haha. Even then, Probably could’ve pushed a bit more on the uphill.
the key for me was to let my mind wander and when I’d catch it spinning off bring it back to the manta “Hong Sau” / I Am Spirit.
I took 7 breathes on the summit. As always.
Anyways, that’s all I got lol.
