After a first failed attempt a week ago, I went back and got it done.
I had secured all the necessary permits (see photos attached) before my attempt:
- Mt. Adams climbing permit
- Yakama Nation Tract D permit
- Wilderness permit
Recreation in Tract D was officially open and I checked with the Yakama Nation beforehand on how to get a permit for traversing Tract D on the east side of Adams. You can either drive to Mirror Lake and use the fee box there, or mail a check. However, if you mail a check, you need to be able to receive a receipt before entering the reservation. I opted to drive to Mirror Lake, paid the $20 fee for day usage/hiking, and carried my receipt with me.
I started at the south side of Adams with all the food and gear I needed, went around the mountain on the east side through Yakama Nation's Tract D, went up the North Cleaver and traversed over the summit back to the south side, then went around on the west side, then finished with my second traverse over the summit.
The GPS track seems to have some issues. Strava shows the recording to the end, but it seems something happened to the recording on the second climb up the North Cleaver. The SPOT tracking has all the datapoints from the start to the finish.
