FKT: Christof Teuscher - Strawberry Mountain Wilderness Traverse (OR) - 2024-07-13

I started at the Canyon Mt. TH outside of John Day and finished at the Skyline trail TH by the east boundary of the wilderness. The route traverses the entire wilderness. I also summited Strawberry Mountain, as the creators of the "half traverse" mandated. 

Several parts of the Canyon Mt. trail are burned and not maintained. It was hard to follow the trail in parts and I needed my GPS. The going was slow, and it was hot. The Skyline trail is in decent shape.

During the last few hours, there was bad smoke and ash flying from a nearby wildfire. It made for some apocalyptic scenery. 

The day was longer than I hoped.
