Beautiful day overall :)
Started a little after 7am. The trail up to Ice Lake is mostly runnable but once you start heading up to Matterhorn, prepare your lungs (and legs!). The "official" trail going up the side of Matterhorn is really difficult to follow once you get to the granite, so I did my best to follow the GPS route via the maps.
Prepare yourself for the gnarly Ridgeline traverse out to Sacajawea- bouldering skills are recommended and good traction shoes are required! About half way, debated turning around but had nothing else to do, so I kept going. Had some snacks and took a few pics at the end of Sacajawea, then stopped to give some hikers ridgeline beta on the way back and opted to straight line it back to trail versus going back to Matterhorn; again did my best to follow the GPS track. I agree with Ryan, that it is probably safer to go back to Matterhorn unless youre up for some steep sand skiing for your way down.
Once back to the main trail at Ice Lakes, the descent is quick and a bit chunky. Saw some friends on trail who I said a quick "hi and bye" to and went to the river for a nice cold soak after.
