I got a really early start before 3am since I knew I had a four hour drive afterwards and was trying to make sure I would be in good shape to drive. I did keep losing the trail bushwhacking, so I lost a few minutes here and there but the first section was otherwise uneventful. The Nannie Peak climb was steep and unrelenting. I loved it! It also turned out to be in much better shape than the Berry Patch trail on the descent later on, which was surprising considering how much more popular Berry Patch is. I made good time to Nannie Peak then stopped and filtered water at a tarn on the route. In hindsight I should have waited for a creek crossing but I wasn’t sure how much water I’d find before the ridge. The ridge walk itself was definitely slow, and there were points I was second guessing the route choices I was making. I’m sure I could shave off at least 30 minutes up there on a second attempt. The climb up to Peak 7215 has a horrible track—do not follow mine! There is real danger of knocking rocks onto someone on the PCT. I’d highly recommend staying climber’s right and picking your way up and down. I got the ice axe out on the next section of PCT. The snow there was bulletproof mid-morning so I felt much safer with the axe. I also used it on the Hawkeye climb and descent, which had some very tricky snow piles to navigate. After joining the trail again it was pretty straightforward all the way to the car except for a non-insignificant amount of blowdowns on Berry Patch.
